ABBY IS WHOLLY COMMITTED TO CREATING THE MOST INNOVATIVE AND REVOLUTIONARY PRODUCTS

Innovation is a part of Abby's heritage. Abby's LED F/X lighting is an example of this innovation, designed to bring revolutionary benefits of cutting edge LED technology to your lighting projects.

ABBY's approach to LED's has always been to develop fittings around the light source itself rather than just fit them into existing products. Our flexibility in production, service and design provide an excellent mix of architectural design and engineering knowledge. It is this approach that has established the company as a major player in lighting.

We are now working with all of the latest LED technologies available enabling us to view, test and design with these products prior to their launch, reducing time to market, and enabling the creation of the most innovative and revolutionary products. The company is wholly committed to developing new and exciting products and in the coming years our focus on architectural lighting will become more and more apparent.

THE ABBY APPROACH A CUSTOMER FOCUSED VISION

Our approach to LEDs and lighting is different, completely new, focusing on all aspects of the package, not just the luminaries. We have developed a broad portfolio of revolutionary new LED fittings, enabling a myriad of applications and designs to be achieved, making your design a reality.

Innovation in Design

The high power LED is in its own rights a truly groundbreaking solution, but the products developed around the light source can be equally as innovative and new through careful design. Our commitment is to design and develop fittings which were never previously conceivable, offering long life and energy savings whilst being compact and aesthetically pleasing to the end user. Our approach is to develop fittings around the actual light source itself, rather than purely incorporating LEDs into existing fittings or designs. It is only by focusing on this that truly new and innovative ideas are created. We are constantly pushing our boundaries in terms of design, seeking to achieve smaller, sleeker, more efficient and aesthetically pleasing fittings than previously designed. We identify the relative merits and benefits of different designs and concepts to develop products which are both beautiful and practical.

We have individually approached every aspect of the product design, understanding not only the external aesthetics, but also the thermal management and optical arrangement to maximise and harness the power of this revolutionary light source.
We also believe in realistic applications for the LEDs themselves, and not just using LEDs for LEDs sake! Rather than cramming numerous LEDs in a large fitting, placing a large heat sink on the back, we would rather develop sleek and compact fittings which are sensible and in proportion to the LED output itself. Driver technology is equally important, with drivers specially designed to maximise the output of the LEDs while restricting their operating current. We are constantly working with the latest technologies. We now offer a range of different drivers for broad operation.

LED technology gallops on at an incredible pace and by working with ABBY, you are working with a company at the forefront of LED technology. We are working with all of the latest technologies available which are themselves starting to overshadow the first generation of LEDs, with efficacies doubling every couple of years.

Product Quality

ABBY understand that the initial LED product cost may be slightly more than conventional light sources, and therefore understand that only a finish of the highest quality should be produced. Similarly we are aware that when working with LED's, one of the primary reasons for specification is long life. Having designed the fittings to enable the LED itself to perform suitably throughout their life, it is obviously critical that the housing and components themselves will also perform. We only utilise the finest Stainless steel, Aluminium, and other materials of the highest quality to deliver a truly world class product. The finish and quality of each and every fitting is therefore not only designed to be of the finest quality, but carefully checked and inspected through exacting and specific quality systems. By providing the total LED package solution, from fittings, to drivers we aim to eliminate on-site problems, and all products are supplied with clear and concise wiring and installation information.

Fitting Quality and Thermal management

The LED housing is equally as critical as the LED source, both in terms of thermal management and aesthetic appearance. ABBY offers highest specification of finish available, with all fixtures manufactured with high grade surface finishes. All housings are manufactured by ABBY and are machined to the highest quality using the latest hi-tech CNC machinery and strict quality controls ensure a consistent high quality of fitting is produced. Although LEDs generally operate cooler than conventional light sources, the heat they produce can dramatically affect their life if not properly vented. LED F/X lighting fixtures feature highly engineered profiled Aluminium heat sinks mounted directly to the top of the LED modules to efficiently dissipate heat. This assures the 50000* hours life of the LED is achieved * at 70% of rated light output.

For large volume projects where product specials have been designed, many components will have to be uniquely manufactured and the sourcing of specific materials may also have to take place. The technical team has a vast experience in handling special projects and the manufacturing facility is specially designed to handle vastly different types of work, with a totally flexible manufacturing space.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF LED TECHNOLOGY?

1. Long Life & High Lumen Maintenance

LEDs are not subject to sudden failure or burnout, like other conventional light sources LEDs predicted to deliver an average of 70% of initial intensity after 50,000 hours of operation.

2. Low Maintenance

LED fittings last at least 10 times as long as conventional light sources, so it helps in reducing or eliminating ongoing maintenance and periodic re-lamping costs.

3. Energy Efficiency

White LEDs used by Abby deliver more than 80 lumens per watt. When looking at LEDs as an alternative, it is important to consider the total system benefits. For example, due to the decrease in energy used for the lighting of a building, the air conditioning costs drop, generating both additional and ongoing investment savings. The focused beam ensures all the light emitted is useable light rather than just light being emitted in all directions and generally wasted, along with the vivid colors emitted without the need for filters or gels.

4. Compact

LEDs are typically much smaller than conventional light sources, allowing for dramatically different lighting designs capitalising on the unobtrusiveness of the light source. Working with LEDs can enable completely hidden sources of light eliminating large visual luminaries, and creating a magical effect when illuminated. The flexibility of LEDs allows for new, playful, and innovative lighting solutions, never previously conceivable.

5. Vivid Colors without Filters and Color Change

LEDs do not require filters to create colored light, resulting in deeper saturated colors without wasted light. Deep reds, greens, blues and other colors can be produced in mono-chromatic form directly from the LED itself.

6. Directed Light

The light emitted from an LED is directional. Typical conventional light sources are omni-directional, emitting light in all directions. To direct the light, reflectors have to be used in order to direct the light onto the object to be illuminated. Each time a beam is reflected, it loses some of its intensity resulting in a fixture loss from 40 to 60%, meaning that in some cases more than half of the light is not directed in the desired direction. The directed nature of LEDs can result in fitting efficiencies of 80 to 90%, requiring less total lumens to provide the same level of illuminance.

7. Robust

LEDs are solid state devices containing no moving parts and no filaments to burn out. There is nothing to break, rupture, shatter, leak or contaminate. LED solution also allows for trouble free designs even in extreme temperature or high shock and vibration environments.

8. Fully Dimmable without Color shift

LEDs are fully dimmable with standard driver technologies without sacrificing any characteristic of the light.

9. No Mercury

Unlike fluorescent light sources, LEDs contain no mercury. Eliminating mercury from the lighting system will enable you to meet future increasingly stringent environmental regulations.

10. No Heat or UV in the Light Beam

Conventional light sources contain invisible radiation as well as the visible component of the light in the beam. The radiation can be very short wavelength blue, known as ultraviolet, or long wavelength red, known as infrared, which causes heat. The ultraviolet can and will damage materials, cause color changes and eventually degrade most materials on which it shines. For museums and other applications where ultraviolet light is a liability, LEDs are therefore the ideal solution. The low heat characteristics of LEDs are also important in areas where the fitting cannot run hot (Such as in-ground fixtures).

DRAWBACKS OF LED TECHNOLOGY

Initial Outlay

LEDs are currently more expensive than more conventional lighting technologies. However due to advances in technology the cost of ownership of LEDs is becoming less than traditional light sources.

Poor engineering creates problems

LED performance largely depends on the ambient temperature of the operating environment. 'Driving' an LED 'hard' in high ambient temperatures may result in overheating of the LED package, eventually to device failure. Adequate heat-sinking is required to maintain long life.
All ACDC products are thermally engineered with this in mind.

THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT- THE FUTURE IS LED

LEDs are developing at an incredible rate with newer, better, brighter, smaller products being offered to market on a regular basis. High power LEDs enable us as a manufacturer to offer lighting solutions never before possible. It is our aim to deliver these products to you, as an efficient, well designed and easy to use package – the ultimate product solution.

What is the energy / power consumption?

This depends on the LED's used. As a guide, using 1 Watt LEDs power consumption is 1.2 Watts per LED. The drivers are around 85% efficient, therefore the power consumption is approximately 1.4 Watts per LED.

For example, an installation with 4 x XACA 3/350/... (triple x 1 Watt) fittings would use:
4 Fittings x (3 LEDs x 1.2 Watt) / 85% Efficiency = 17 Watts Power Consumption
